From the North American Red ‘Soft’ Maple tree (Acer rubrum) comes Tiger Maple. This timber features fiddleback stripes running prominently perpendicular to the grain of the wood, vaguely resembling the coat of a tiger. It has been long been used in orchestral string instruments and fine furniture. At approximately 600kg/m3 density, this is on the softer end of the hardwood spectrum.

Select this timber for your next drum if you seek warmth and roundness in acoustic performance settings. Tuned at its lowest, it is expected to be broad and open, singing with beautiful pitch. As the drum is tuned up, it is expected to have round smooth stick attack that complements the shell’s ‘pop’ with a dry snare wire response.

Limited timber: x2 snares have already been made using this material. There is only enough left to make x1 more snare drum.

Price: Add $100 to the drum size and model of your choice.
