We consider this drum a part of our ‘new era’ collectibles. We feel these are particularly special examples of our craftsmanship as custodians of fine materials, punctuated by antique hardware including custom-plated fittings.

Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle (Nothofagus Cunninghamii) grows in the rainforests of Tasmania. In some myrtles a black heart staining produces a figuring, which is known as tiger myrtle because of its striking lined effect reminiscent of the stripes of a tiger. At approximately 700kg/m3, this is considered a fairly hard timber.

Due to its scarcity, this timber has only been used for externals on Hybrids, purchase this drum if you seek a unique striking Australian timber which is especially rare at this quality.

On the inside of this shell is recycled Western Australian Jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata) is native to the iron and aluminium rich plains of south-western corner of Western Australia. Whilst Jarrah is a standard timber in our range, this particular stock was salvaged from a 100-year-old verandah in regional Victoria (Tonimbuk), its density is approx. 835kg/m3 and is considered a hard timber.

As a smaller body snare drum, it is more versatile than an equivalent 14 inch. This drum especially loves mid to high range tunings. Tuned at its lowest however it can produce a meaty thick musical note, particularly with dampening assistance. As the drum is tuned up, the mid range ‘pop’ of the shell becomes apparent and a throaty crack and musical ping emerges.

Drum #600 built 16th July 2023. Mat selected this exceptional drum to mark their sixth hundredth drum ever produced. It has remained in Mat’s collection until now, before which time public exhibition of any Red Rock stock has not occurred.
