Queensland Maple (Flindersia brayleyana) is native to Northern Queensland rainforests between Townsville and the Windsor Tableland. With these areas now heritage protected, maple is harder to source. This timber features attractive close wavy quilting. At approximately 560kg/m3 density, this is on the softer end of the hardwood spectrum.

Select this timber for your next drum if you seek warmth and roundness in acoustic performance settings. Tuned at its lowest, it is expected to be broad and open, singing with beautiful pitch. As the drum is tuned up, it is expected to have round smooth stick attack that complements the shell’s ‘pop’ with a dry snare wire response.
