Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle (Nothofagus Cunninghamii) grows in the rainforests of Tasmania. In some myrtles a black heart staining produces a figuring, which is known as tiger myrtle because of its striking lined effect reminiscent of the stripes of a tiger. At approximately 700kg/m3, this is considered a fairly hard timber.
Due to its scarcity, this timber will only be used for externals on Hybrids, select this timber for your next drum if you seek a unique striking Australian timber, it is especially rare given its figured feature. The internal wood you select will ultimately contribute most prominently to the tone of the drum.
